Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has given his blessing for the modernising all fourteen fish farms across the state, with an outlay of Rs 25 crore ($3.9 million).

The Minister said that all the fish farms or hatcheries run by the state must be equipped as soon as possible, with state-of-the art infrastructure to enable production to increase. This would enable the large gap between demand and supply of seed fish to be filled.

Badal also gave his approval for the installation of mini feed mills in these fish production/demonstration farms, to enable high quality fish feed to be produced.

Fish Training Skill centres will be encouraged on the farms, to provide quality training to the farmers and the unemployed youth, and promote more aquaculture in the state.

\"There is tremendous scope for fish farming in the state, which can help us to transform the destiny of our long-suffering farmers who are facing a major agricultural crisis,” he said.
